| Benefit | You gain the ability to gain and expend martial focus, and you gain the following ability. Active DefenseIf you are using a shield and you are attacked by a creature you are aware of while not flat-footed, you may spend a reaction to increase your shield bonus to AC against that attack by +2 (increasing to +3 at +4 base attack bonus). This decision must be made before the roll is made. You may expend your martial focus in place of spending a reaction. Deflect feats grant extra effects to Active Defense. Each use of active defense may only benefit from one deflect feat.
