Class Skills: The mercenary's class skills are Animal Ken, Athletics, Crafting, Healing, Perception, Streetwise, Survival, Warfare.

Skill Ranks Per Level: 4 + Int modifier.

Proficiencies: Mercenaries are proficient with simple weapons, as well as the flail, greatsword, halberd, heavy flail, heavy pick, light pick, lance, longsword, shortsword, and warhammer. You may also wield the bastard sword and estoc, but only as two-handed martial weapons. You are also proficient with light, medium and heavy armor and all shields, including tower shields. You are also proficient in all shield bashes.

Combat Training

You also gain either the Berserker or the Shield Fighter feat as a bonus feat.

Finally you get the Mercenary weapon and armor proficiencies listed in the header.

Pick the feats Redirecting Shield, Brute Fighter, and Powerful Maneuvers.

If this is your first character level you gain another bonus feat of any type. Use it to pick Weapon Focus feat for your chosen weapon.

Equipment

Starting Gold: 175 gold pieces

Gear Packages:

and a traveler's outfit, a backpack, a belt pouch, and a whetstone.

Use 6 gold pieces if you wish to purchase a trail package.

Use 15 gold pieces if you wish to purchase a dungeoneering package.

Armor Training

Whenever you are wearing armor, you reduce the armor check penalty by 1 (to a minimum of 0) and increase the maximum Dexterity bonus allowed by your armor by 1.

In addition, you can also move at your normal speed while wearing medium armor.

Feats

You gain two combat feats.

Shield Fighter: Pick the Hammer and Drop Foe feats.

If this is your third character level you gain another bonus feat of any type. Use it to pick the Cleave feat.
