The various classes and specialties each fulfil certain roles in The City.

Alchemist Link tome.webp

Alchemy is a well-developed science in The City, widely used by both the common populace and for more specialized uses.

The most common research field is the Chirurgeon, though the products of the Mutagenist also sees common use. The Bomber and Toxicologist meanwhile generally employ their art outside the city walls in defense of The City.

Barbarian Link tome.webp

While some traditional barbarians have joined The City, generally living in some of the wilder fragments, there are also otherwise civilized members of The City which have embraced The Rage.

The Animal and Spirit instincts are generally embraced by immigrant barbarians. The Fury instinct is embraced by many street bravos. Some members of the cult of Gorum embrace the Giant instinct, while the Dragon instinct is embraced by the Wyrm Watch. Given the nature of The City, the Superstition instinct marks one as part of The Surrendered.

Bard Link tome.webp

Though one might assume that most bards are in entertainment, in this day and age it is more common for them to employ their skills in adventuring or working for martial organizations of the city.

Official bards are trained either at the Bardic College (gaining the lillend Shaitana as a Maestro muse) or at the War College (gaining the inevitable Marble Guard as a Warrior muse). Bards with Enigma and Polymath muses are generally self-taught, or taught in an apprenticeship by another bard. Though the great wyrm Edrim also serves as an Enigma muse for some.

Cleric Link tome.webp

The Clerics of The City are generally those that worship the deities that have taken residence in The Godhood.

A few worship stow-away deities that have taken up residence in the city in receptacles even less grand than The Godhood. These are generally deities of a chaotic or evil disposition.

Others remain faithful to the deities of the outer planes, and merely suffer through the periods in which they are cut off from their patron during the gloaming.

Druid Link tome.webp

A number of druids have immigrated to The City.

The greatest concentration is the order of the Moon Druids, which follow the ways of Animal and Leaf. Somewhat smaller is the Order of the Lightning Keepers, which follows the way of Storm.

Though the druids may pay respect to some nature deity or another (the local deity Berdan is a popular choice) they are unaffected by in disruption in connection to their deity, since they draw their power from nature itself.

This is one of the reasons that they lobby for natural fragments surrounding the city, since the energy provided by worlds being devoured by The Nightmare starts becoming twisted and dangerous.

Rogue Link tome.webp

Many rogues belong to the criminal, though many also work either to thwart criminals in The City or to apply their skills outside the city limits in protection of The City. Some of these later are criminals turned to the path of righteousness, but there are also institutions that train them directly.

Criminals can find training from any number of thieves guilds such as the Black Hands or the Red Veils.

Other rogues may be trained in the Wayfarer College (as specialized scouts, wayfinders or first contact specialists) or the Shadow Bureau (as spies, masterminds or saboteurs).

Criminals are of course ill regarded by all, but the non-criminal specialists are seen as common citizens like any other with a valuable skillset.

Wizard Link tome.webp

Wizardry is well respected in The City, with wizards generally holding high positions or lucrative jobs compared to other spellcasters.

An not insignificant amount are trained in a master-apprentice relationship by various mages across the city. These usually enter various commercial professions, though it is not unknown for some individuals to enter the adventuring profession.

Many wizards, however, comes directly from the Arcane College, trained by one of the Arcane Schools. Training at the Arcane College can be acquired for free by promising candidates in exchange for service to The City in various military and civilian positions. Alternatively, citizens of means can purchase a spot at the Arcane School. Some of these still end up in service to The City, while others sell their skills, or employ them in an adventuring career.
