Main > Conditions > Grappled

You are restrained by a creature, trap, or effect.

Grappled creatures can take no action that requires two hands to perform, cannot make attack reactions and cannot move away from other creatures engaged in the grapple. You can move those creatures through the use of the Combat Maneuvers like Bull Rush and Drag.

In addition, grappled creatures take a –2 penalty to AC and on all attack rolls and combat maneuver checks, except those made to grapple or escape a grapple. Attacks with weapons heavier than light suffer an additional -4 penalty, and lose any ability modifier bonus to damage (though ability modifier penalties still apply).

Casting Spells while Grappled/Grappling: The only spells which can be cast while grappling or pinned are those without somatic components and whose material components (if any) you have in hand. Even so, you must make a concentration check (DC 10 + the grappler’s CMB + ½ caster level of the spell you’re casting) or fail the spell and lose any spent spell points.

Escaping a Grapple: If you perform the Grapple combat maneuver while in a Grapple, on a success you become the grappler, allowing you to release the grapple as a free action.
